'Through the Portal' Minecraft Challenge

'Through the Portal' Minecraft Challenge                    March 2020

Dosbarth Moel Siabod and Dosbarth Yr Wyddfa have been working collaboratively to complete a Minecraft challenge. After reading 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne, the children paired up to imagine what could be at the end of the mysterious tunnel. They had to think about what they would be able to see, hear and smell to create a plan for writing a setting description.

Once the children had created their plans together, they went away to write their setting descriptions separately. We then came back together to share our writing.

From here, the pupils worked with their partners to draw a map of their imagined world on squared paper in preparation for building it in Minecraft. They had to discuss how they could combine their ideas to make one setting and think about how it could all be set out.

We then went on to building using Minecraft. Pupils were invited to join a Minecraft world and given an area to build their design in. The children really were fantastic! They were extremely excited about the task in hand and worked very well with their partners, making sure that all ideas were shared and everyone had a job to do. The children were brilliant problem solvers and really showed their ability to be flexible and to persevere when things get tricky!
