Most schools have a Parent Teacher Association (PTA), which is an organisation of parents and staff. We have Faenol Friends. Its role is to encourage closer links between home and school. Parents and members of pupils' extended family are welcome to join us. We do lots of fundraising work, but we have a useful social function too. Many events organised by us provide an opportunity for families, staff and pupils to get together.
All parents, carers and teachers are automatically members of Faenol Friends.
We hold an annual general meeting and at this meeting a committee is elected to run Faenol Friends – usually consisting of a chair, a vice-chair, a treasurer, a secretary and committee members.
Our committee meets regularly to organise individual events and have a chat! Meetings are usually lots of fun and last only about half an hour.
We raise money through a range of events, for example fetes, cake stalls, bag packing at local supermarkets. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas.
Funds raised by Faenol Friends are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting.
The committee and the headteacher decide how to spend funds.
There are many different ways you can help, whether you have lots of time to offer or not.
Some of the roles are time-consuming, although also rewarding. If you can’t commit to a big role, look out for things you can do less frequently (eg running a stall at the summer fair, baking for a cake sale). And you can always support Faenol Friends events by simplyturning up.
