Dosbarth Tryfan (Year 4/5)

Dragon homework (Jan 2020)

 Happy New Year!

This term our topic is- The Land of the Dragon.

The learners were given a selection of stimuli and from this we discussed/planned aspects that they were particularly interested in. Our inquiry questions were linked to aspects of Welsh dancing, Welsh myths and legends, Cardiff, castles, Welsh football, real dragons and traditional Welsh food. We will be covering these over the coming term.

Linking to the topic, our class book is 'How to train your dragon' by Cressida Cowell.

If you have any skills, artefacts etc that we could utilise during our project please let us know.

Homework will continue to be project based, alongside Mangahigh.

Home reading books need to be returned to school weekly for us to monitor.

Can PE kits please be left in school and I will send them home at the end of every half term.

Homework (DEC 2019)

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a lovely summer and are ready to work during the new term.

During the induction day, we discussed what we would like to learn about for our new topic. I gave the pupil's 'Journeys' as a heading and they chose to look at the journey of time paying particular interest to dinosaurs, the Egyptians and Vikings. We are starting off with the Mesozoic era and rocks and fossils.

I have chosen class books linked to the theme of 'Journeys' starting off with 'Invasion' by June Crebbin (The Normans invading England during the Saxon period) and 'Cristophe's story' (A young Rwandan boy and his family move to the UK) by Nicki Cornwell.

If you have any skills, artefacts etc that we could utilize during our project please let us know!

Homework will continue to be project based. As well as this all pupils will be set math's challenges on Mangahigh to complete.

Can PE kits please be left in school and they will come home at end of each half term to be washed.

Home reading books need to be in school every Friday.

We composed rainforest music.

We have been busy measuring.

Last Thursday afternoon Dosbarth Tryfan attended a first aid training workshop. They practiced putting casualties in the recovery position, giving chest compressions on a mannequin and putting bandages on fake wounds. They thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.

Spring Term 2017

Welcome to Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 4/5)

Happy New Year!
We are continuing with the theme 'Tudor travels' for this half term as there is still lots more we would like to learn about.

We have decided to particularly focus on the areas- who are the Tudors? Tudor travels and a day in the life of a Tudor.
There already seems to be particular interest in King Henry VIII.
If any parents/ grandparents/ carers have any resources that they think will be of use to out topic please let us know!

Our class book is going to be 'Bill's new frock,' the pupils are very much looking forward to it and are quite intrigued by the title. before we begin the book, we are spending a few weeks on 'Mr William Shakespeare's plays' as this ties in nicely with our topic on Tudors and script writing as part of our Lead Creative schools project.

Homework has slightly changed and is taking the format of small projects over three weekly periods. the first one is linked to our Religious education topic this half term- Islam. Please read the information on the top of the sheet which has been sent home today (10/01/17) for more information.

Home reading book are changed on a Friday, so it's important your child's book bag is in school on this day. When you listen to your child read, please record in their yellow reading diary.
Spelling lists are sent home on Friday, to be learnt ready for the test on Tuesday.
PE kits need to be in school daily.
