Reception/Nursery Diary- week beginning 14th September

Welcome to Reception and Nursery

Our Topic: Places Near and Far

The children have been discussing the local area, talking about the types of things you might find in buildings around Bodelwyddan and the sorts of conversation you might hear. The children have acted out their ideas. We have had lots of fun.

They have drawn their perfect house- quite a few included swimming pools! They have made little junk model houses with milk cartons and different coloured, sized rectangles for windows and doors. Some children have created fabulous replicas of buildings in Bodelwyddan with wooden blocks, Lego and other construction materials. Paintings of Bodelwyddan buildings, such as the hospital and church have been created – we were all very impressed with the results.
The children have also been looking at the types of animals that live near us and those that live far away. They have sorted animals into groups, they have made animal masks and named their favourite animal. They then painted a picture of their favourite animal.

Phonics and Reading
We have been concentrating on the initial sounds ‘s’ and ‘a’ this week in our Jolly Phonics. There are many videos on line you can look at, to help support your child’s learning and show you how Jolly Phonics is taught.

Reading
The children read with a teacher at least twice a week and enjoy practising letter formation, high frequency word games and alphabet jigsaws during group reading time. Books can now be taken home daily and brought back to school every morning.

Number
We’ve been practising our number formation and recognition up to twenty. We’ve been counting in twos up to ten and tens up to a hundred. We look for opportunities to count objects throughout the day.

Dance
Every Thursday for the coming weeks, the children have their dance lesson with Mrs Roberts. So far, these have been a huge success.

ICT
Children use lots of devices during the week to take photographs and compete tasks on educational game sites. On a Friday, small groups of children work with Mrs Harvey in the ICT suite.
