Message from the Head Teacher:
At Ysgol Y Faenol we are doing our best to support learners and their families during these difficult times. This is an entirely new and challenging situation and we are doing our best to make the right decisions for the whole of our school community, whilst following advice from Welsh Government and Public Health Wales. The situation is changing frequently. We are trying to keep you updated via our texting service and through updating newsletters on the website. Please check regularly for any updates.
On Friday 20th March schools in Wales closed to the majority of pupils for at least 4 weeks. I would like to thank all the parents and members of the school community who have been so supportive. I am immensely proud of all of the learners, who have been so sensible and kind to others in these challenging circumstances.
We have not had any notification, as yet, as to how long schools will be closed for. If schools are closed for longer than the forthcoming 4 weeks we will continue to work with you to support pupils' learning and try the minimise the impact for when the situation returns to normal.
Thank you for your continued support. I wish all our pupils and families best wishes over the forthcoming weeks.
Rhian Jones (Head Teacher)
Since 2016 Ysgol Y Faenol has been involved in the Arts Council for Wales’ Lead Creative Schools Project.
Our work to date has been identified as good practice and was showcased at the National Creative Learning Festival for Wales in 2019. The head teacher has also been invited to speak about our work on a number of occasions both at national and international events.
We have now been selected to participate in a fourth Lead Creative Schools Project.
Dosbarth Yr Wyddfa will be involved in this project during the forthcoming weeks. We are lucky to have a creative agent and two creative practitioners helping us with our work. We will be collaborating with Ysgol Maes Owen on this and the work will involve developing specific mathematical and coding skills, as well as a range of skills as identified on the creative wheel.
Children’s Laureate – Eloise Williams
Author Eloise Williams will be visiting Ysgol Y Faenol
Tuesday 3rd March 2020
At the start of her tenure, Eloise emphasised how excited and honoured she was to be their Laureate; how she will do her very best to help them find the right stories for them; will push for them to see themselves well represented in literature; and most importantly, that their voices matter.
Eloise Williams has written a number of books including Gaslight, Seaglass, Elen's Island.
On the day of Eloise’s visit and during the week following the visit there will be an opportunity to purchase Eloise Willliams’ books for £5.00 each. If you would like to purchase a book please send the money or a cheque into school in a labelled envelope.

Mrs. Rostron has visited school today for an informal gathering before she formally retires tomorrow. The children and staff gathered in the school hall this afternoon to celebrate her 19 years at Ysgol Y Faenol. The children sang some songs and read out a poem. We presented Mrs. Rostron with some beautiful flowers, some Clogau earrings and a book voucher. Mrs. Rostron's dedication and devotion to our pupils at Ysgol Y Faenol has been inspirational. We will miss her very much and wish her a relaxing, wonderful and well deserved retirement. We have all, including Mrs. Rostron, had an emotional, but lovely afternoon.
We have invited Mrs. Rostron back to school for our St. David's Day service in the Spring Term to which we intend to invite members of the wider community, past pupils/colleagues to join us to wish Mrs. Rostron a happy retirement. Further details to follow.
